2010-02-13 - Hearts for Haitians Press Release Date: February 10, 2010 For Immediate Release The Ottawa Paramedic Hearts for Haitians Day at Carlingwood Shopping Centre Saturday, February 13, 2010 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Ottawa Paramedics are known to save lives every day, but this Saturday local paramedics and paramedic students will be volunteering inside the doors of Carlingwood Shopping Centre asking customers to share their hearts for the Hearts for Haitians event. Customers who make a donation will receive a "Hearts for Haitians" lapel sticker with money sent to the Canadian Red Cross' efforts in Haiti. “Every day, our paramedics work hard to save lives. By donating to the Canadian Red Cross campaign, citizens of Ottawa can save countless lives through donations that will provide food, clean water and shelter to the proud people of Haiti. What better way to demonstrate our love on this Valentine’s Day weekend, then by dropping in to Carlingwood Shopping Centre and making a donation,” says Darryl Willton, President of the Professional Paramedic Association of Ottawa. "Ottawa's Paramedics are everyday heroes in the community" said Frank Fenn, Carlingwood Shopping Centre's Marketing Director, "it is an honour to be able to work with them and our customers to raise money for such an important cause." As added bonuses two demonstration areas will be set up. Outside entrance #1, by Carling Avenue, Paramedics will provide a guided tour of a working ambulance. Inside the mall, in front of Peoples Jewellers, Paramedics will be demonstrating their skills. In both cases customers will receive a unique opportunity to see the inner workings of the Ottawa Paramedic Service. Media are welcome to attend this community fundraising event.
